I live in the UK and some people here actually do use a kettle full of hot water to de-ice their cars. I cringed the first time I saw someone do it. If you've got the smallest rock chip or defect in the windshield it's fucked, but if there's no existing damage it  doesn't seem to cause cracks. Thankfully I don't need to try it myself because I've got a quick clear windshield that heats up and clears itself in under a minute 😀

Why don't people just start their cars? I'm so confused. I've never heard of anyone not letting their car warm up before driving it when it's that cold anyway...
