do you think raising the minimum wage to $15/hr is a good idea?
sorry if this topic has already been posted recently.
i am from the united states, and looking at it from that perspective, but even if you are from a different country, what do you think? does your country already have a substantial minimum wage?
i think this is a hard decision to make. i would love for everyone to make enough money to live comfortably and securely, no matter what their job is. but looking at it from a realistic standpoint, how would this work? where does that extra money come from? are the taxpayers going to have a largely increased burden? if you raise minimum wage, what about the jobs that are above minimum wage, but not by much? do they get a raise as well? for example, i am a first year teacher making $35,000/year. i spent money and time going to college and i now make about $16/17 per hour. if a job that requires higher education and likely results in student debt only pays a dollar or two above minimum wage, do you think less people will be motivated to put time and money into a college degree?
i would love to hear any opinions or knowledge you have on this subject.
