Milk supply
Just wondering if anyone has any tips/ insight?
I feel like my milk supply is constantly yo-yo ing. More so now with the confirmation that my son has a possible milk allergy. He was super cranky after nursing earlier today so I gave him the last bag of frozen breast milk I had and he chugged 6 oz like he hadn’t eaten all day. I’m trying not to supplement and was about to throw away my stash bc I didn’t know if I had consumed dairy while I pumped it but I hardly drink milk, only eat it if it’s hidden in my food like in restaurant rice, cheese, baked goods etc.
However with this new diary free diet, I’m loosing weight and I’m literally stuffing my face trying to get as much protein in as possible but it’s so hard when you’re busy and limited with your options. I raided our local health store last night so hopefully I can get a handle on that part quickly. Dairy free food ideas/ recipes are welcome if anyone has any :)
Also I got my second PP menstrual cycle couple of weeks ago and it didn’t click to me why my baby was super fussy and clingy and just wanted to nurse. He was up every hour and glued to me all night. I kept pulling him off and putting him in his crib. Tonight it dawned on me that my supply drops drastically when I get my cycle that maybe my baby was still hungry? :(
How do you mommas do it? With your LO’s sleeping longer stretches and trying not to create bad habits like nursing to sleep or using you as a binky? Now I’m starting to think it’s just my baby’s way of getting my milk supply up?
I’m now back to middle of the night pumping sessions (it’s 3am now) until I can feed my hefty (21 lbs) guy. He’s growing so fast it’s hard to keep up with his needs. I think for now I’m just going to put a pause on trying to get him to sleep through the night and not letting him nurse to sleep. I also tried giving him a little bit of formula and he drank a couple of sips. We already had Similac Alimentum (broken down milk protein) from the last time I was having supply issues (my husband bought like 5 different kinds lol).
Anyways, just wanted to say that breastfeeding is hard. Especially bc my LO can’t tell me he’s still hungry and I just attributed all of the subtle signs to the leap or a sleep regression. Sigh.
Tonight he nursed from 8pm to 11pm then was up at 1am, 2am, and he finally seems satisfied. I might not survive this, but I think it might be necessary for a little bit.
Sorry for the long post. I’m tired. Lol
