Tongue/lip ties
Looking for some perspective! My 6 week old daughter was born with a pretty strong lip tie and a small, posterior tongue tie and is exclusively breast fed. It took some effort to get into breastfeeding at first and her weight gain was happening, but it was the minimum expected. My midwives didn’t recommend snipping the ties because it hasn’t been hindering her weight gain.
I notice its tricky to latch her on one side that my nipple is a bit smaller, and she’ll take about 25-30 mins on average to feed at this point, still gaining the minimum weight. She had a hard time keeping a soother in as well, seeming to chew it rather than suck consistently.
I’m wondering if anyone else has seen these subtle difficulties and if snipping the ties helped?
I’m more wanting to be proactive and snip them to prevent issues with solids, speech and dental hygiene down the road. But for some reason I’m feeling quite anxious about doing it. Am i overthinking this?
