Jackets?

Question

So babies shouldn’t be wearing a jacket in the car seat? My son is 3 months old. And we’re from the Midwest!!

You can use a snug fleece jacket/coat. This goes all the way until they outgrow car seats so it’s good to know to plan ahead. Puffy coats can compress in an accident which can cause baby to be ejected from the car seat. I usually put my daughters fleece jacket on but unzip it and pull it away from her chest in the car seat

If it’s something thinner like fleece, it’s ok, but definitely not a puffy jacket. I live in a super snowy freezing city and I typically dress her warm, skip the jacket and but a blanket over her once she’s buckled in. The puffy jackets interfere with the effectiveness of the car seat straps and will not protect your baby in the event of a crash

When my kids were in infant seats I used a nice winter cover over it. When they switched to convertible seats I bought car seat ponchos. I’ve also seen they now  have special coats designed to be used in car seats  too, they are kind of pricey though. I thin jacket that doesn’t require moving the straps at all is also okay. If you have to move the straps to accommodate the jacket then it’s too thick.

We are also in the Midwest. At that age we used a car seat cover. Once we moved to a convertible seat we use a light hooded sweater and a car seat poncho

Nothing under your little, no big jackets. Blankets over are fine. I follow Safeintheseat on Instagram and she has amazing safety tips for car seats.

I put thinner jackets on my son when he's in his car seat and if it's a little too cold, I put a blanket on him but puffier winter coats are too big for car seats and then the straps don't fit the right way. Hope this helps. 😊

That’s what I do warm sleeper, boots, hat and a blanket on legs, and car seat cover and a blanket over that. Plus getting into a warm car. I was worried that he wasn’t warm
