Would you move your family of 5 to a different state for a $20,000 yearly increase to your income?

Answer

Depends on the state...if you live in Oklahoma and move to California or New York a 20K raise might not mean much in the grand scheme as everything is drastically more expensive. Where as moving from California to Oklahoma or Iowa with a 20K raise would be beneficial.  Would also depend for me on if I would be ok in that state and happy (climate/culture/etc). I know personally I would not be super happy living in the desert or in a flat mostly corn/wheat field state. There is beauty there and I have lived traveling in them but I am happiest with very large mountains and forests or able to drive to the ocean on a day trip. I would have a hard time in Nebraska for instance due to geography. It is beautiful there...but not for me to live in. It all just depends honestly. Me loving where I live means more than the money in the end.

It depends. Will that money take us from broke & struggling to pay bills to being comfortable? Is the cost of living there cheaper or same cost? If it's more expensive, then there's absolutely no point. Also, is it a place I'll be happy living? No point in moving for money if I'm not gonna be happy there.

No. Personally I don’t think 20k is worth uprooting that many kids. Especially depending on what cost of living is like at that destination

Well I’m a military family so I view moving completely different than a normal person. So I said yes. Because honestly I love moving around.

Hell yeah. Then try to invest that whole pay increase.
