Chewing at 16 weeks but not teething?

Question

Since discovering her hands, my LO has been sucking and chewing on them nonstop (as you would expect).
I don't see or feel any teeth yet, but she has been chewing on the sides of her mouth where molars would be and has even taken to using a teether.
Is it common for teething babies to chew on areas where she won't cut a tooth for at least a year? Wondering if this means she's teething even though the front teeth are the one area she ISN'T chewing.

Normal. My baby has been chewing on everything since 3 months old, and he’s 8.5 months old now with no teeth still

Totally normal! They use their mouths to explore their world. My baby never chewed when he was actually teething but otherwise he always has something in his mouth!

They use their mouth to explore and saliva glands develop anywhere between 2-3 months and they don’t really gain control until they’re older. Ike teething isn’t impossible, it’s unlikely. Unless you see teeth under the surface, it’s probably exploratory.

That is normal. They start to chew and drool way before any teeth is visible. Mine had been like that well over a month maybe even two and no teeth in sight still

My kid would chew and I wouldn’t see anything but then like a month later I more I would see some sprouting so maybe just pressure from growing gums and future teeth

Ftm mine started the same thing. But at 20 weeks i saw this white dot that hasnt gone away in 3 days now (not thrush) and he now chews there so idk could be thetthing could just be dicovering textures with the mouth. But definately normal.
