Breastfeeding for the first time to someone who never imagined doing it. Advice please?

I'm posting anonymously, I don't know if I'll get my post taken down. I'm sorry! 😬 I never imagined being able to breastfeed and I believe I might be able to. What advice would you give a first time mom who knows NOTHING about breastfeeding. I know it can be hard and I know baby may not but can you elaborate? I'm literally clueless! 😂 Please help.

I would take a breastfeeding class. I never expected it to be so hard. There is so much that goes into breastfeeding that I never realized! I didn’t take any classes during pregnancy for labor and delivery or for baby care and felt fine in those areas. I totally wish I had taken a breastfeeding class though. I plan to even take one during my next pregnancy even though I’ve breastfed before (didn’t work out).

My best advice would be to be patient with yourself and with baby. It’s a learning experience for you both. Also, it will be difficult and painful at first but if you stick to it, you’ll get the hang of it and it’s sooooo much more convenient than using bottles. I wasn’t able to breastfeed my first and I’m breastfeeding this time around and I’m noticing a HUGE difference in my mental health and stress since having him. I also highly recommend seeing a lactation consultant so they can help assess your baby’s latch and give advice/answer any questions you have. It was a big help for me!

Classes would help a lot but also be patient because it takes a lot of time and effort, but every worth it👍.
