What helped with your natural birth?

To the mamas who had a natural unmedicated delivery, what helped you go through it?

The things that really helped me were;
Labouring at home as long as possible. Your body tends to progress faster when you are in a familiar relaxed environment. 
Moving around. Not only can help things progress but can help you get though some of the contractions.
Labouring in water. I actually birthed in water. It is so relaxing for your body, let's you float between contractions to give your body a break. Can also help reduce tearing. My body immediately relaxed once i got into the warm water 
Breathing was HUGE. Practicing meditation, hypnobirthing and breathing techniques ahead of time really helped me stay in a focused, calm head space. 
Having your partner practice hip squeezes can be so so helpful getting you through contractions, especially in very active labour.

Being mentally prepared for a rough experience because I ended up over preparing and it seemed so much more manageable.  Also doing a ton of research so I felt confident in understanding exactly what would be going on at each stage and what could go wrong or could happen to be aware of any issues.

I honestly had an easy birth. It didn’t really hurt. I put that all down to having 4 cups of red raspberry leaf tea every day during the third tri. I have always had painful periods. They were debilitating. Labor was nothing compared to that. And now after having my daughter 3 years ago my period hasn’t hurt at all either. A toned uterus makes for less pain is all I can attribute it to.

Sex, ignore labor as long as possible, walking, eating dates in 3rd tri and drinking red raspberry leaf tea in 3rd tri.

Moving. Massage from my husband. Hot shower. And having mentally prepared for it - knowing that each contraction is a finite amount of time. We took the Bradley Method class together - it’s a partner-coach class where they train your partner to be a doula for you - and it helped us a ton.
