Why many doctors dont check Hcg yet some do?

I've read of so many cases where the doctors order for the blood hcg tests, and others directly give appointment for 8-9 week ultrasound with no blood tests. 
Why this difference? Is it dependent on country? Or age or risk factors? Or past relationship with the obgyn? Or maybe the PCPs order blood draw and Obgyns don't?

I’m in Australia. Standard practice is they do one round of bloods and urine to confirm and then you get a ultrasound at 7-8weeks. Was the same for my first and this one. I had a miscarriage last year but they won’t do extra bloods unless multiple loses.

I’ve had a different experience each time. Typically the doctors here won’t do any bloodwork until around 12 weeks and just use urine test to confirm pregnancy. My first pregnancy I had bleeding/spotting around 5 weeks so they did one blood test around 6 weeks to check my levels along with an early ultrasound and baby was fine but I had an SCH. I then had ultrasounds every two weeks to monitor the SCH until it went away. With my second, I had no issues and my doc just took a urine test and did ultrasound between 7/8 weeks and then blood test at 12 weeks. This time around it has taken us awhile to conceive so we had been going through a fertility clinic, and they did a blood test (but just one) between 4-5 weeks. I asked if they want to repeat it and they said no but I have an ultrasound next week at 7&3 to check on baby and fingers crossed everything is ok!! I did get put on progesterone this time because they told me my progesterone was a little lower than they like but that was all they said about it.

I only did them my first pregnancy because I had bleeding at 5 weeks and my ultrasounds the baby wasn’t visible just the yolk sac. So they had to keep testing to see if it would rise or lower and unfortunately ended up in miscarriage. But this time I haven’t had any hcg tests but my ultrasound had a lil baby bean in there with a heart beat I was so relieved!

I’m not sure.  I have a history of miscarriages and am high risk, and out of 5 pregnancies, have only had my levels checked once and there was no follow up

I’m 35, this is my first pregnancy. My OB/GYN won’t see you for your first prenatal visit until you get a blood pregnancy test done and your HCG is high enough to be considered positive.

Depends on the women’s history. If there is a history of issues like miscarriage they will typically order more tests and have an earlier scan to track progress of the pregnancy.

That’s a good question actually.  My doctor did with my first baby at the first appt along with an ultrasound.  I’m in the us.  Maybe it depends on age?  I’m older - 37 - so maybe if you’re younger they don’t rush to do a blood test?
