In my experience, it hasn't held up. 
The person who cheated on me never accused me of anything. 
The person who actually ignored me for another person they liked didn't accuse me of anything. 
But, the people who did accuse me weren't cheating, but were scared of abandonment, had been cheated on previously, and may have had interest in other people, but didn't actively pursue.
These accusations are often the start of more controlling or manipulative behavior patterns- but so far haven't been projection.

Was true in my brother’s case. He kept accusing his girlfriend of talking to guys online and exchanging nude pics and whatnot.
Turns out HE was the one talking to women online and paying them for nude photos. 🥴

It’s called deflecting, but yes it’s usually a huge red flashing red flag, a rise in the pitch of their voice, their nose dilating, their eyes dilated, rapid heartbeat and pulse, itching at their face and skin because their face capillaries dilate, there’s a lot of tells when it comes to seeing if someone is lying on top of being a human lie detector and actually putting your index finger on the wrist and finding the pulse, but there’s a lot of tells when someone is lying and the inability to make eYe Contact, or intense eye Contact, getting anger or flustered, there was an FBI agent years ago who did a whole article on how to tell the signs that someone is lying You should look it up.
