Irregular cycles force to wait 1 yr for workup?

Some background information, i have an irregular cycle (varies from 28-40 days) and my husband and I have been TTC for 11 cycles. I was on the mini pill for contraceptive prior to TTC. 
I saw a doctor about my irregular cycles/ lack of conception and was basically just told if I am not pregnant within 3 cycles to come back and she will do a workup. Is it normal to make someone with irregular cycles wait that long to even do labs?

I guess it depends how long you've been going to that doctor and how long they know you've had a regular periods. I've had a irregular period since I've had periods since I was 9 years old. I've been going to my gynecologist since I was 16 years old. So as soon as I said that I was having a irregular periods and I want a baby he took me seriously and he did my blood work then. Then he put me on Clomid for six months. I did not get pregnant but I did ovulate each month. Now that he retired I am seeing a new doctor and because she already seen me on fertility medicine she's checking my tubes soon and my husband's sperm. I found out my hormones are fine from the blood work they did. And all honesty it just depends the doctor and how seriously they're taking you on the situation. Most doctors don't care and are going to wait until after a year of you telling them you're trying.

Depending on your doctor really. I haven’t been trying for a year this time around it was 9 months at the time we did my fertility work up and prescribed letrozole 5mg. Maybe this was because one tube is blocked.
