I think it depends on your pain tolerance x 
I didn't have one because I know a few people that suffer from back pain years after having their babies from the epidural x 
I had my first baby last January and I found that labour wasn't actually that bad (I had a back labour which is apparently more painful). I found that I didn't actually need any pain relief at all x

You do not need to decide ahead of time. I decided to go in and try without it and see how I do. I ended up getting it, but I needed pitocin, so I can't really compare to natural contractions. But I also felt pressure to make a decision in advance, but in all honesty, that's totally unnecessary.

there is no should or shouldn’t! if you want to, do it! :) is there any reason you’re on the fence? i didn’t get once because i simply didn’t want to. you CAN do it natural if you want! but i’ve heard so many women say they LOVED giving birth with epidural and felt nothing. i can’t say the same, but i would do it over again the same way :)

I thought I had a high pain tolerance but only made it to 7cm dilated before I was begging for the epidural! Lol
I was also induced and pitocin contractions are worse than natural contractions I was told.

My friend had an epidural 14 years ago and still has daily back pains from it. My SIL has an epidural 11 years ago and still has pains from it.

It’s different for everyone. I had one and it sped up my labor, I delivered about 3 hours after it was put in and my recovery was super smooth.
