Increased hiccups?

Question

Anyone else notice the farther along they get, the more the baby gets hiccups? I had an appointment yesterday and my midwife said they were normal and he will have them up until I deliver and to not trust Google about hiccups. I just started to notice since yesterday he’s been getting them frequently. He had about five episodes yesterday and today he’s had three episodes so far. Anyone else?

I just turned 28 weeks and in the “what to expect” video this week she mentioned increased hiccups because your baby is practicing breathing and inhaling more amniotic fluid as well, so it’s totally normal and expected! It’s actually a good sign that your baby’s diaphragm, nervous system, and reflexes are developing well. Of course, if you’re ever nervous that it’s too much then you should always contact your dr, but most likely everything is fine.
When I was pregnant with my son he would get hiccups alllll the time and they continued after birth lol. Sometimes he’d hiccup 5+ times per day and other times I’d only feel them once or twice a day. Even as a 3yo I feel he gets hiccups more than most people, but it is what it is lol. He’s as healthy as a horse.

Yep. It's normal. My kids had them all the time. It's them practicing breathing in the womb so it's a good thing. Congratulations!!

My last pregnancy my baby had hiccups all the time during my pregnancy. I did notice a big increase in hiccups I'd say around 35 weeks. He actually hiccups alot now that he is out too. He was born with his cord wrapped around his neck twice but I don't think it caused the hiccups since he was hiccuping throughout the pregnancy and still hiccups now he is born.
