elective induction?

Is anyone planning a elective induction at 39 weeks? i would like to bring it up with my OB but not sure how to have this conversation. On top of being absolutely miserable, i live an hour away from the hospital, and live in the midwest so the winter storms are extremely unpredictable, i’m worried about making it to the hospital as well as my support person being able to make it as well. When i first started seeing her, she said we will talk about induction if i make it to 42 weeks, but there is absolutely no way i can be pregnant for 7 more weeks.

My doc implied that he’d be ok inducing me at 39 weeks for peace of mind due to previous circumstance. I’m going to find out for sure tho this week.

My doctor said the earliest she would do it would be at 39 weeks.  She explained how the whole process works and made me feel like maybe it’s not the greatest idea, but at 35 weeks I’m so miserable I will tell her on my next appt I do want to get induced at 39 weeks.

I brought it up a few appointments ago to make sure my doctor was NOT against it. Simply because I would have changed doctors if he was against it. I’m going to schedule it for 39 weeks. This will be my third baby and third induction. I get the epidural ASAP so I don’t feel the heavy contractions and I (or baby) haven’t had any issues from the inductions. First time I did the cervix softening pill only starting around 8pm one night and had my son by 2pm the next day. My second I just did Pitocin and had him within 7 hours. I’ll probably do the Pitocin only again.

I think OBs get this question a lot so I don’t think you need to be stressed about how you bring it up. Does your OB rush through appointments? Is it hard to ask questions? If so maybe ask it at the beginning of the appointment to get it out of the way. You could just say “before we get started I have a question to ask and don’t want to forget, what are your thoughts on inducing me at 39 weeks. My reasons/concerns are...”
Personally I’m on the other end of this preference. Being hooked up to the IV and the continuous EFM along with increased potential epidural need and being confined to bed for all of that would supersede my concerns about the long/ weather drive to the hospital. But that’s just me and I hear where you’re coming from with your concerns and your doctor should hear you out and give you a thorough answer.

I am for personal reasons. My doc had no issue with it as long as I was 39 weeks or more.

I wanted to get one at 39 weeks, but I’ve heard the hospital that I’m going to be delivering at won’t induce until 41 weeks without medical reason. 😩

I had an elective induction with my son. I had no complications but the pitocin definitely amplified the contractions and made it hard to work through without pain medication. 
My daughter, I don’t have much of a choice. They don’t want me going past 40 weeks due to the possibility of my placenta detaching/failing because of some weird curves at the ends.

It doesn’t hurt to ask, I know my OB won’t do it before 40 weeks but I wouldn’t personally do it regardless. Pitocin makes contractions so much more painful, so unless you are going into it wanting an epidural, I’d try to wait it out. It’s all preference though and each doctor is different!

I was just talking too my ob about this last week I told her I was thinking I wanted too be induced on the baby’s due date if she hasn’t come by that date, I was induced with my first and had a great experience no pain medication needed at all it was amazing knowing when baby would come, she told me that because of covid they’re scheduling inductions for medical reasons but she would try too get my in on baby’s due date. Tell your ob your concerns you might have too wait till your 40 weeks but I see where you’re coming from and why you want too set a date hopefully they’ll induce you good luck 🤞🏻❤️

My OB just talked to me about inductions the other day and because of COVID they will not be doing any elective inductions before 40 weeks which I don’t plan on doing anyway but thought that was interesting. Not sure if other hospitals are following the same policy. There’s no harm in asking your OB about an induction though!
