Portions of fruit/veg per day

Sophie

Here in the UK, the recommendation has always been at least 5 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day.

Recently however the NHS/government have said it should be closer to 10 portions a day.

So how many do you think you eat?

I think most days I have between 5-10 so a typical day might be:

- Breakfast smoothie which includes banana, spinach, berries

- Lunch salad including lettuce, avocado, peppers, tomato

- Dinner could be a curry or roasted veg dish which might include cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, mushrooms.

However I try to limit fruit due to the high sugar content.

Occasionally we might have pizza or something & I struggle to hit 5..!

A portion is 5 tablespoons of cooked veg or a piece of fruit (or a handful if small fruit).
