Just like Grandma's business from home?

Ever since I was a young girl my dream was to open a bakery one day (cakes, cupcakes, pies, cookies). Now, I am close to graduating University and work for a finance company - nothing to do with my dreams. So I've been thinking of starting small, start a bakery business from home (still keeping my job). I've done all the legal things, I do not live in the USA/UK/Canada.

While doing market research I realized a huge gap. Not one of my future competitors does grandma style treats (homemade pies, old school cookies, cakes) the recipes passed down to generations which you have every holiday and love. Younger genarations now have no time on their hands and rarely know how to make their childhood favorites. I'm talking staples in my country - pies, cookies, old school cakes. Things even young kids adore. So... I'm seeing an opportunity.

My husband thinks no one will ever buy that. That people will only buy birthday cakes for their children and never buy other bakery things (adults bake their own cakes according to him). He assumes everyone knows how to bake a pie, cookies etc. I disagree.

Could it work? I want it as a side income, nothing much. I've been saving up for a bakery - roughly in 7 years from now. But I want to follow my dreams now.

Grandma style treats. Yes or no?
