Smokers? Stories, quitting

Question

Anyone on this app a smoker? How did you start and why? Have you ever thought about quitting? Tried, but failed? Tried and succeeded? How long have you been smoking for? How much does it cost you? How much do you smoke?
I really want to quit. I've been a smoker for the past 7 years. It would be nice if other smokers commented and we can all help each other out.
Please no weed comments. Too many posts already on the subject.

Smoker here. In my country it's huge, almost everyone is a smoker (some only casually), some lucky ones never got into it. I don't know how to quit, I am ashamed to say that I've tried several times, but failed.
Started in high school. I thought it would help me curb my appettite as I was overweight and wanted to lose weight. Now I'm stuck either smoking or trying to quit which makes me want to eat even more and gain weight. I am always choosing smoking over overeating. Horrible cycle.
It costs me 50-100€ per month. Cigarette prices are one of the cheaper ones in Europe, so that tells you a lot. I try to stay under a pack a day, mostly succeed - but it's a lot.
I hate them. I caugh a lot, smell horrible - always try to have gum on me and wash my hands and clothes religiously, even as a smoker I am bothered by the smell. I get tired easily, my endurance is horrible if I'm out of shape. I go to the gym and after a break it is horrible to get back into my routine.
I'll have to quit soon because I want to have healthy babies in a few years. I have no idea how I'll manage that BUT I WILL.

So, I stopped smoking by allowing myself to start smoking 1 hour latter evey day. 
E.g: Monday I'd had my first cigarette at 10 pm then on Tuesday it should be at 11 pm. 
After a few weeks I had my first cigarette at 8-9pm and by then I simply didn't want to smoke anymore. 
Really recommend!

Started smoking at 13 stoped smoking @24 I wasn’t a big smoker 20 cigarettes would last me 3/4 days. 
I randomly took it into my head to stop smoking bought a vape lasted 1 day with vape throw it in the bin after paying €60 for everything 🤦‍♀️ I said why quit and go on vape when I just have to quit that too so I went cold turkey and never looked back. Cravings stopped within a week kept eating oranges as it takes the cravings away I started doing 1000 pieces puzzles to keep me occupied and my hands doing something (still do them to this day more for a hobbie now) 
My mother is 30 years smoke free and she was a heavy smoker 
My fiancé is nearly 8 years smoke free just got to learn what triggers you to want a smoke and replace it with something else.

You can do it! I quit after smoking for about the same amount of time. The first couple of weeks of withdrawals suck. Just push through them. Honestly the biggest thing for me was letting go of the IDENTITY of being a smoker.. disidentification with my smoking was what finally made the quitting stick.
I also recommend just adding as many new things to your routine as possible. Little habits like lemon water or meditation, walks, face masks, whatever. It doesn’t have to be a permanent thing but just add whatever you can (and a lot of different things) to distract from smoking.
If you drink maybe avoid drinking too for the first little bit.
Another thing that helped me what I made a massive list of all the reasons to quit vs the reasons to keep smoking. When I was tempted I would take a look at the list and remember why I was doing it.
You will experience physical withdrawals, but in my opinion the emotional attachment to smoking is what makes it so hard to quit.. cigarettes become like a friend over time.. they are always there when you need them. Just remember they are a shitty friend.
