Depends on what the child has done, just because their old enough to know better doesn't mean that they won't make mistakes in life. My parents did spank me, but only when words & other forms of punishment didn't work (after me doing something multiple times).

I was spanked a few times as a child, when I'd done something super-bad. It was a real shock and guaranteed I'd never do said bad thing again. Didn't leave me traumatised.

I was only spanked twice by my mother & once by my grandma. I was a normal kid that tested boundaries if I knew I couldn't get away with it I was an angel that followed rules. My mom was once at home & once in public for spanking. I thought my grandma was the sweetest lady who I could do no wrong. Ha! I got the birch branch & people want to talk about "psychological" pain from normal spankings. I had to pick out my whipping branch. 😰

I was never spanked as a child.  My mother said I would be bad as hell.  But from the time I can remember around 5 or 6 I just knew I had to listen.  There was no threatening or anything like that . You just did what you were told and behaved yourself.  I think it depends on how a child is raised.  I have 2 boys 14 and 9 and I have never spanked them.
