ERA experiences

I have an era on Tuesday and I’m semi freaking out because I had a SIS recently and it was SO painful. I’m worried my era would be equally as painful lol. Any experiences you’re willing to share? How painful are we talking?

Thanks ladies!

Hi all! Just wanted to report back on the era since I know a few ladies here are waiting for theirs or thinking of doing one. Honestly, it was not that bad at all. It felt like a very intense pinching for 5-10 seconds and it was done. My SIS was tenfolds more painful. Any who, thanks for all of your encouraging words and good luck to those who have yet to do it!

Totally understand that feeling! I was super nervous and told the nurse so and she was so great. She held my hand during it and by the time I felt something and said “ouch” the doctor was done! I promise it won’t be that bad! Hell, I’ve had menstrual cramps worst than that. Keep me posted on how it goes!

Thanks for updating Emily, I'm glad it wasn't too bad. I hope your results come back and give you some answers to make your next transfer successful ❤️ my ERA is in a couple of weeks, just want to get it done now 🤣

I took a valium before. It hurts but it’s less than 30 seconds, and is fine after. Nothing like my in-office surgical hysteroscopy. My SIS also hurt.

Mine was a bit painful but very bearable. I felt the scratching very distinctly and it was not pleasant, but it was over fast. In retrospect, I fretted much more than I should have before having it! It’s really a matter of 2-3 minutes’ discomfort, nothing more.

Good luck to you! I'm considering having an ERA as well so hoping it's an easy process ❤

Good luck Emily, be good to hear how you find it, I'm in my ERA cycle now too, my biopsy won't be til early March though. I asked my clinic about the pain, and they said as I'd done 3 egg retrievals under conscious sedation this would be fine. Hope they are right and it isn't too painful. Hope it goes ok for you ❤️

I've done the endo scratch, which is a biopsy of the uterine lining. Same thing as an era, they just need more tissue for an ERA if they're testing for receptivity, endometriosis, and endometritis. They place the speculum, then they scrape some tissue from the endometrium (uterine lining). I forgot to take tylenol before and freaked out. I didn't even know she did it. I do have a high pain tolerance though, and a SIS didn't bother me a bit. Take 2 tylenol about 35-45 minutes before the procedure. That should help. It is literally over in seconds. If you get super freaked, call and ask for a Valium to take before.
