Alimony in NC
So, after much prayer and counsel I decided divorce was my only option. I'm seriously grieving right now.
We just moved into a new place, and are on the hook for the rent for exactly 1 year. I haven't filed for divorce officially yet, because;
1. I have an important court case pending that can't be tainted by the stigma of divorce. (It will take 6 months to 1 year for it to be resolved.)
2. I am not entirely safe. I need to be wise and file when I have a new place to live. If I tell him I want to leave before I move out, he might flip.
I am processing. NC law is that you must be separated for a year before you can be granted a divorce.
I am in a new career that is taking off, but I don't want to lose my standard of living during the separation and for at least 6 months after the divorce.
I have always supported him financially in our marriage. I got him everything he has now, except his car, but I don't want his transportation.
I'm not looking to drain his resources. I simply want what is fair.
Anyone have any sound advice?
