Need some advice on if this is normal.

My child has been making patterns lately by lining up colored toys or stacking blocks. The patterns are typically done with blocks or the same size and shape and they will alternate colors such as green red green red or blue yellow red blue yellow red. Is this normal or something I should bring up to ped? I have had concerns about them displaying possible signs of autism, but they passed the 18m test. I just feel like this is really odd for a child their age.

I’m not sure, especially if you have other concerns, I’d bring it up to your pediatrician to get their input. That being said, Jesse has been really interested in sorting as of lately. With food, toys, etc. I think at this point it’s just a way of them learning and understanding.

Seems pretty normal to me! My oldest separates her dinosaur toys by size and type all the time.

Autism is a spectrum aka multitude of signs. One thing here or there I would not be worried about. He may very well be visually oriented. Or have OCD. If you’re truly worried though, mention it to his pediatrician. It never hurts to ask. And you’ll get peace of mind.

I think it’s normal. But I’m not a doctor. My nephew does it and he just had his 3 year appt and they said he was perfect!

My June baby does this with his mega blocks and crayons. I thought it was normal, as he is very bright and has meet all milestones on time or early. But if there are other things that worry you, it wouldn’t hurt to bring it up at your next check up.
