Trying to hang on to new relationship

Alicia

I’ve recently (6months) started dating my boyfriend. We have been friends for the past couple of years. The thing is, right before we became “official” he landed his dream job. So far he’s loving it but I’m not as thrilled. This new job takes him out of town for 3-4 weeks at a time. I’m in school and work full time so I’m busy as well but it’s really wearing on me that we don’t have time to spend together.

Tonight he was talking about how excited he was to get better and faster at his job so that he could finish early and spend the rest of his time sight seeing in the towns he’s in. This hurt because I would figure he would want to come home early to spend that extra time with me.

When he’s out of town I check his house, mail and water his plants. When he’s home though he doesn’t do any tasks around my house that I ask of him. He didn’t even get me the one Christmas or valentines gift that I asked for. He uses the excuse that he was out of town. I guess I’m just feeling neglected and needing to vent. I usually run away from relationships at the slightest thing I don’t like. It’s harder this time because 1. He really is a nice guy. And 2. I’m almost 35 never married (want to be) and I want another baby. I feel bad because I can’t ask him to give up his dream but it’s just not a fit for a relationship either.
