Would you get married for insurance reasons?

My boyfriend and I have been together for fours years. We’ve talked about marriage but never really made a decision. I’ve been married before, he has not. I’m losing my job soon and the only prospect I can find doesn’t offer medical insurance. We have been talking about getting married so I can be covered under his insurance (only covers legal spouse not domestic partners). I’m conflicted on this because it seems to be more of a “business” way to do it versus doing it for love.

Honestly it’s as good a reason as any to get married. A legal marriage (to me) really means nothing. It’s not what makes the partnership special, happy or true. That exists on its own.

I’m currently engaged so I guess it really doesn’t matter to me lol. But if you need the insurance but also want the whole love part (which I’m assuming you guys do love each other) you’ll obviously need to talk to him about it but you could do a courthouse wedding now just for the legality of it then when you guys are ready to have an actual wedding you could do that. Would I marry someone JUST for the insurance? No. But you guys have discussed it and if it’s something you want to do anyway then I don’t see the harm

My boyfriend and I have had this conversation. He's retired from the army and has asked if I would want to get married to get his benefits (I'm currently pregnant with his baby). We're both technically married to our ex's so this isn't something that could happen over night and would have to be well into the future. I've told him if we were going to get married it would be because we want our relationship to last and we have faith that we'll be long term. I don't want to go through another divorce. For me it's not about the benefits it's about love. I was fine before and I'll continue to be fine.

There’s a reason it hasn’t happened yet imo. Whether you realize it or not. That’s my take. Like you said it will feel like a business transaction rather than a step in your relationship.
Can you get government insurance if you’re in the US? This might not be the job for you. I know times are tough but it’s valid to need health insurance. I turned down a job for not having it years ago

We were fully committed to each other for years, but never felt a need to get married until one of us was leaving their job. It’s not like it was a stretch for us to do it, and I wouldn’t consider doing it if I wasn’t fully committed before hand.

Only if the both of you actually want to get married and you are ready to get married. You don't want to rush into getting married because you feel like you have to, and then regret it. 
My husband and I kind of did this. We had been together for 6 years, engaged for 3 years, and finally just did a kind of last minute small wedding, so I could get his insurance. I don't regret marrying him, but I do regret the way we did it. It really gets to me sometimes that I did not have a "real" wedding. I had planned my wedding for so long, and all of that was just tossed out the window.

If I hadn’t already been planning on marrying the person, then no I wouldn’t rush that wedding. I want to get married for love and love only - not bc of kids, insurance, family pressure, anything else. 
An old manager I had got married for tax and insurance benefits. I thought he was joking at first but nope, straight up, he just said that it logically was the right decision and they already lived together so it just was what it was, may as well get the benefits of basically being married. And it was like the saddest thing I ever heard.

My boyfriend and I are 21, we’ve been together for 4 years, I’m having my first baby any day now and plan to get married soon but bc of the job he’s getting which has the best benefits we might get married earlier just bc I’m still under my moms insurance and I can’t put the baby under mine

We might. We’ve been together 7 years and never really cared to get married. Now I’m pregnant with our first and he’s going to be a stay at home dad. My employer has great insurance so it might be the most cost effective option for us to get married so he can be added to my plan once he’s not working anymore.
