Anyone had a newborn with hypoglycemia/ low blood glucose / low blood sugar?

My newborn had this in the first 24 hours and I stupidly googled it and saw that it is linked with a range of issues down the track... has anyone else had this issue? How is your baby/child now?

My son had an iv for glucose the first week because of low blood sugar issues.  I’m assuming it was because he was a preemie and low birth weight for his gestational age.  It didn’t continue to affect him at all

Yes and baby is fine. The problem isn’t just a small time with low blood sugar it’s a sustained amount of time with low blood sugar. If they treated for it in hospital then baby was monitored right away and will be fine ☺️

I forgot at what point exactly my boy had low blood sugar - not sure it was first 24 hours, but it was during first 3 days. He was treated in-hospital and has had no other issues with it. Not sure what issues down the road you're referring to, but if developmentally I can say my boy has been doing pretty well. He started eating pureed food as early as 4 months, walking by 10 months and now (15 months) he is climbing on everything. The only issue so far is he hasn't started saying many words. I'm not concerned honestly. Hope this helps.

My son developed this during the first 3 days after birth.  He also lost weight.  My milk didn’t come in until late on day 5.  We needed to supplement with formula off and on for the first week.  Then after my milk came in, I breastfed.  He is 2.5 years old now and has always been in the 99th percentile without any other issues besides the rough start.  He was just simply hungry and I wasn’t producing enough of what he needed at that time.
