Period and birth control

So I started my birth control about days days ago. And day two of starting it my period came (period was kate) and now I’m on day 8 of period snd I’m still spotting brown blood/discharge. Is this normal? My periods usually last only 6days😫 also pads irritate me so this is quite awful 😂 I use unscented pads for sensitive skin
