Do you start offering baby water when they start up on solids?

Question

Baby will be 5.5 months, pediatrician recommends starting purées now, I forgot to ask about water

At 6 months I only did around 1-2oz of water daily just for practice drinking out of an open cup then a straw cup. My pediatrician said to just offer small amounts as you don't want it to displace breast milk or formula. At 9 months now doing closer to 2-4oz daily out of an open cup of straw cup.

Our dr said baby doesn’t need water until at least 6 mons and then only sips. No bottles of water until a year

Babies who have formula tend to start sooner than breastfed due to formula containing salt and is dehydrating. My baby is 6 months and won't start having water until 9 months. My pediatrician said it can only be used between meals because babies can get confused and won't understand if they're hungry or bored. Over hydrating babies is also not good especially during the first few months of their lives. It depends on the kid of course. When in doubt ask your ped.
