Tipping/Gratuity
So I saw a thread on FB and the original post was a doordash driver talking about how she didn’t get a tip from a few customers on the same night. A lot of people came at her and basically said a tip isn’t required and you should be grateful when you do get them but you should never expect them.
I personally will not utilize any type of service that I could do myself but don’t feel like it and NOT tip. Nor would I ever go to a bar/restaurant if I couldn’t afford to tip. I tip everyone from the guy who pumps my gas (in PA we have both self service and full service so I’m in no way required to make someone do it for me but sometimes I’m just lazy lol), the lady who does my nails, sometimes even the drive thru workers at a fast food place.
IMO people take these jobs because they are generally tipped as a common courtesy and they are doing you a service.
From what I understand, companies like doordash pays out a delivery fee of like $3 per order and then the rest of the income is all tips. If I’m going to request someone pick up my take out order and bring it to me just so I don’t have to put my shoes on and do it myself, hell yeah I’m gonna tip you. We DD for lunch today and I told my husband to tip more than the usual 25% because the roads are slick and the drivers are still out working even though it’s dangerous.
On our wedding night we also remembered to tip all of our vendors except our DJ. He never complained or mentioned it. I realized it on my own a few days later and called him to get his venmo information because I felt it would be wrong to simply not do it because I forgot in the moment.
So do you feel like tipping is a moral requirement or do you feel like it’s perfectly fine to not tip because it’s more of a gift and shouldn’t be expected?
