Which IVF is more effective, frozen or fresh transfer? I’ve heard that somethimed embryos can’t survive the thaw.

I'm not sure but when I went through it I wasn't given the fresh option only frozen and both of mine thawed ok

Honestly it depends on your personal situation. I’ve read about many successful fresh transfers on here. Depends how many are retrieved. But typically, I do think that it’s best to give your body a break from all of the meds from retrieval, have a period and kind of “reset”. You want a conducive environment for the embryo. I would think that most clinics would advise you to do that anyway if your hormone levels rise too high during stims. Mine did. I’ve had 2 retrieval’s and both times, I was told to prepare for a freeze all. So I didn’t even have a choice. It happened during my first round and we had only 1 embryo. So we had to prepare for a FET. I definitely worried about it not surviving the thaw,  especially only having 1, but the embryologist told me it was very rare. So I tried hard not to worry. It all worked out and my FET was successful! Just completed my second retrieval and again I had to do a freeze all. But thankfully we have 10 this time. I honestly don’t mind it. I felt pretty blah after retrieval day and just wanted some time to chill and prepare for the next step. So that’s where I’m at now. I will do a FET in the next cycle or 2. I’m glad to give my body/mind a rest. Good luck! 🍀

My clinic pushes frozen hard because they’ve seen much better success for almost all of their patients. It makes sense due to the excessive hormone levels, strange timing of collections and trauma due to the collection process. That being said, clinics don’t like to share information that could get other clinics to their level of success, so it’s not always the same. Check with your clinic, specifically, on their rates. 
Side note: the overall research shows that high responders for stims/retrievals do not have good success rates with fresh (likely due to the extra sky-high hormone levels and amped up trauma/inflammation from the collection) and I would never recommend they do a fresh unless they’re one of those rare individuals whose eggs fail to grow well in a laboratory setting.
If your lab is good, thawing has a fairly low rate of failure BUT I never recommend people thaw and refreezing their eggs just to PGT, because you’re doubling the chance of losing the eggs and who knows what extra damage a second round can do. PGT is a choice that should be made before the first freeze.

I’m currently 4w+2 with my fresh transfer. 1 out of my 6 collected made it. My clinic likes to do fresh transfers and charges a LOT more for a freeze all round. No one at the clinic recommended it, or even discussed it with me. Clearly they’re not big fans!
