Pubic bone pain :(

Hi, I’m 17+3 and for the last week or so I’ve been getting pain across my pubic bone. Sometimes like a stretched ligament feeling (mainly after walking the dog), and sometimes more of an ache (typically at night in bed). I’ve messaged my midwife for her thoughts, as I’ve seen some things online about symphysis pubis dysfunction/ pelvic girdle pain but I was wondering if anyone is experiencing similar or has had with a past pregnancy (this is my first)? I’m really hoping I haven’t got 23 weeks of increasing pain ahead of me!

I had this with my first and it’s starting up with this one as well. If I remember correctly, it was rough from 14 to about 30ish weeks. In my first pregnancy, I kept doing some fairly rigorous workouts (kickboxing, HIIT, etc) and noticed it would be much worse after. This time around, I’m doing more walking and tennis so it’s not been as bad. I went to the chiropractor last time and that would help for a couple of days but wore off so I went frequently. I’ve also read a pelvic floor physical therapist can help as well as a support belt but haven’t tried either yet. It’s not fun!

I noticed it really was dependent on my exercise activity. Days when I exercised were worse than others but it was pretty consistent throughout that time, unfortunately.

Oh crikey, sounds like I ought to buckle in and get used to it! Did you notice it getting progressively worse over that time, or was it quite constant? Luckily I’m only finding it particularly sore if I try and walk up hills, so hoping I can manage through! x

Physical therapy and they can give you support exercises and fit you with a belt.

I think it depends on the person. It definitely works better than doing nothing. They also give you some positions and activities to avoid that might make it worse.

Yes had read about those treatments, but wondering what to expect in terms of it getting worse and if those treatments alleviate the pain well or just take the edge off! x
