On base or off base housing?

What are the pros and cons of each?

It really depends on what base you're living on...In California it's worth living on base as the cost of living in Cali is sooo high and they have decent housing.

I think it depends on where you’re stationed , I’m stationed near DC so rent is INSANE and would be most of my BAH not including utilities so we opted for on base housing so that we would have a yard and no utilities. It patrolled by the MP’s so it’s very safe for the little ones and our neighbors have become like family to us

Off base: 
- You get more freedom to do what you want aesthetically.
- You don’t get involved in as much social politics
- You get BHA so you have more room to get a place you like. Some base housing is RACHET.
- Not as difficult to host civilian guests
On base: 
- You’re surrounded by a big support system
- Safer if you have kids by far
- Closer to amenities (in most cases)
- No rent and lowered utility bills
