How large is your apartment/house?
As a European, American houses are huge.
I am engaged and plan on having kids in the future (like 5 years from now), so it's just me and my fiance for now. We decided to downsize from what is considered a fairly large apartment around 1400 sq ft (130m2) 3 bed 2 bath to a more suitable 1 bed 1 bath around 540 sq ft (50m2) which I've recently discovered it's considered tiny in most people's standards. In my country it's actually a pretty decent size especially for just 2 adults (and/or small children - babies and toddlers).
Since me and my fiance own both apartments, we'll move back into the larger one once we have more than a baby (like once the baby grows into a toddler so he/she can have his/her own room) and there is an additional bedroom for a second (even a third child). Until then we'll be renting out the larger apt.
I'm curious how you all live, like how many sq ft (or m2), how many bedrooms and bathrooms, how many people etc. What do you all use your extra rooms for?
My fiance often works from home, so a home office is something we will always need - in our smaller apartment we've managed to squeeze one into the open concept living room and in the larger apartment we'll have more options for his home office.
I honestly think the layout is much more important than the sq footage of a house/apartment. I've also read that some americans also count the garage as part of the home, in which case I can understand why/how the home is so large.
It you feel free to comment I would love to know.
Also - I couldn't handle taking care for any more than our larger apartment (on my own), I would for sure need help with that. So I am proud and slightly jealous of you wonderful hardworking stay at home moms who can achieve that all on your own. It takes me 4-6 hours a day just to get our 1400 sq ft tidy and clean (vacuum, mop, dust etc).
