TTC for 1st time

TTC for about 5 months, but no good luck. My menstrual cycle last 26 days, and my period last for 3 days. From day 7 we started intercourse every alternative day, some times every 2 to 3 days. I never tried ovulation kit. This time I. Going to use the kit. Anyone suggest me please. How to conceive, if I am doing anything wrong. I will be 30 in next month and partner 37.
