Summer kids- send or hold back?

Im just curious what others mommas have experienced? I am having the hardest time deciding whether to send my July son to kindergarten this year right after he turns five, or pre-k. He’s before the cut off and I’m a teacher so I definitely know the pros and cons. I’m just having a hard time deciding so I wanted to chat with others who have experienced this. You know your child best, I want to stress that.
Having said that, I’ve been a kindergarten teacher for 16 years. I have had many parents choose to wait a year for their late summer baby, and I do not know any who have regretted it. Alternatively, I have had conferences with a good number of parents where they decide to retain their kindergarten kid, and they do express regret that they didn’t wait the extra year.
Again, though, really reflect on your child’s maturity. Kindergarten is more academic now than when I was a child.

My son was born in September so he just misses the cut off. We planned to put him in Montessori here because they start 2 years 7 months old for the pre primary group but then Covid happened. Our regular school has 3 year old preschool and 4 year old preschool so he’ll only qualify for the  3 year old even though he’ll turn 4 the month school starts. I feel like that won’t be a bad thing.

I taught kindergarten for 8 years. Hold him if you’re even slightly on the fence! Boys tend to be so much more successful with the extra year!

We are sending my son, he will be 5 in November. I have been discussing this with his teacher and speech therapist in order to make the best decision. Both believe he will do well in kindergarten academically. I started him early for PreK as well. He knows how to spell and write his name, knows some numbers and letters and sounds, can count and identify simple shapes and knows colors, uses pencils, markers, crayons scissors appropriately, can dress himself and use the bathroom alone. My big concern is if he will be mature enough to sit and focus all day. He is a good kid and tries hard, but he is 4. He returns to in person learning soon so hopefully that helps.

I wanted to wait for my September kid but when I tried to register her for kindergarten for next year they told me I'd have to put her in grade 1. Speak to someone at the school to make sure you're even allowed to hold him back.
