What happened during your first fertility appointment?

So I have my first appt on the 4th of April and im very excited! So I'm just wondering, how did your first appt go? What did they do? Did they prescribe anything that day? Let me know please!

They just talked to us, got our history etc. You generally wouldn’t be prescribed anything until you’ve had all the relevant testing done.  I had an ultrasound, blood tests, hsg, and my husband had a SA too. The doctor needs to work out if you or your partner have any particular issues before they can recommend any treatment.

My first one was lots of talking. They wanted to know about my cycles, our TTC situation so far, pain levels, health history, all that kind of stuff. They ordered a SA for my husband (not done that day). They ordered blood work and ultrasound for me (not done that day). They talked me through the immediate care plan. It was mostly just talking, but we got the ball rolling!

My doctor gave me the option of just figuring out if I was ovulating on my own or doing a full work up with all the tests like a hcg, ultrasound to check for pcos, things like that. I didnt start taking femara until 3 months after seeing her. I told her I wanted to know everything so we did quite a few test and blood work before I was ready. 
One thing I learned is it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. I was very overwhelmed with everything my doctor told me we were going to do just to see if I was even fertile. I asked her if she could write down what we talked about at that first visit and she made me a list of every test we were going to do in the order we were going to do them. I was so thankful for that. I have also broken down in her office more than once and her and her nurse took their time to sit with me and make sure I was okay before she moved on to her next patient.
Here it is 8 months after seeing her the first time and I’m pregnant!! After confirming I have PCOS and dealing with hypothyroidism and not having ovulatory cycles, we figured out the right combo of meds and vitamins for my body! 
So my advice to you
Don’t be afraid to ask all the questions you have and get clarification on things you don’t understand! Write down a list of all your questions or concerns before you go because I promise you will forget something and remember after you leave.

My first appointment was just talking, telling them all of my medical history, and discussing our plan. We used the first cycle to do tests, as there were several tests they did at different points in my cycle. Then the second cycle they actually started me on meds.

The first appt is just talking and going over what tests they'll do and what treatment plans are available. Then you go and get those tests done (semen analysis and blood work, ultrasound and hsg) then you'll have another appt and go over what your results will mean in terms of treatment plan.
