Is it wrong to not let your dog/pet on furniture?

Came across this Tweet with a lot of comments agreeing that if you don’t let your dog (or cat/pet) on your furniture, then you shouldn’t have them.

To me, that’s pretty ridiculous. I don’t let my dog on furniture. She goes outside a lot and I don’t know what she comes across. She also sheds pretty horribly and I don’t want to be more hairy than I already am from her lol. She has her own nice comfy dog bed that she sleeps on. She also sleeps on random rugs around the house. What do you think? Is it wrong to not let pets on furniture? Why?
