Haakaa help?

Question

Can anyone fully explain to me what the haakaa is? Will it be helpful to me? I’ve pretty much given up on pumping because I get so little out but my daughter, now 5mo, still nurses!! I’ve never been an extra or over producer. I get milk donations for my freezer for when I am not home but I wish I could do more in my own.

The Hakka is like a manual pump. It’s silicone and so easy to use. You place it on the breast and squeeze. It’s super gentle. I like to use mine while I’m nursing on the other side or when I’m engorged, it helps to pull my nipple out so baby can latch easier.

The haaka stopped working for me as soon as my supply leveled around 4 months.  If you leak from the other breast while nursing, the additional suction of the haaka might get something out for you though.  I have never leaked this time so I’m assuming that’s why it didn’t work well for me.

I found the silicone pumps great for catching letdown whilst feeding. With my eldest I tried pumping with a manual breastplate and hated it, barely got anything, but my silicone pumps would catch anywhere up to 5oz a feed.

For me the haakaa was useful when catching the letdown from the side my son wasn’t nursing on. I had a super forceful letdown so it was nice to be able to catch it and not waste that milk. I only used it for that.

I found it to be really useful to collect milk during nursing sessions on the breast that the baby wasn’t feeding from. You just suction it on and leave it until baby is ready to switch sides. 
I also use it whenever I’m too lazy to get the pump out and only need quick relief. Just attach it and watch some tv or something. It suctions milk out. No pump parts to wash!
It is the most useful breastfeeding item I own. Highly recommend it.
