Butt swab?

I have my 32-week appointment next week and my OB mentioned a few weeks ago that I’ll have to do a butt swab at some point during my 3rd trimester. Does anyone know which week that’s usually done, and what are they testing for?🤔

It sounds worse then it is they just run a Q-T over your butt hole. It doesn’t even go in and about 36 weeks they typically do it. They are testing for group B. It’s a bacteria! 🙂

It’s not actually a butt swab.it’S testing for group b strep and it’s literally a q-tip from your vagina lightly to your butt

Group B strep test. It’s a swab they stick partially into the opening of your vagina and then around your butthole. It’s quick and painless

My OB does them around 35-36 weeks. It is a swab that they do on your vagina and your butt for Group B Strep. If you’re positive for it, you’ll get antibiotics during delivery. If not, you won’t. It’s not painful and it takes like 2 seconds, I just had mine done last week. Good luck!

I actually had this done last week when i was exactly 36 weeks. i was terrified for this swab but girl .. it’s 2 secs and not bad at all. the vaginal swab was a little more uncomfortable

I’m curious if they still have to do this even if you’re scheduled for a c section? Doesn’t anyone know

Like others said it’s to test for group B strep. Usually around 36 weeks. It’s a bacteria that sometimes is present, no symptoms for the carrier but can be passed to baby during delivery and cause issues for baby. If positive, you’d need antibiotics during pregnancy, both my previous pregnancy’s they had me swab myself, they just give instructions.
