cry it out method?

what are your opinions on letting a baby cry it out? i hate it but everyone around me is advising me to do it. i tried it once & it didn’t help her sleep like everybody said it would. it had no positive effects.

Depending on the situation . My 15 would not quit crying every time I put her to bed she would scream for hours... her bed is right next to mine so I would sit there and watch her but it was just so stressful on me so I started going out of the room and sitting by the door and checking on her. First I checked 5 minutes apart than 10 than 20 than 30 until she was asleep. She just would not sleep if I was in the room unless I patted her to sleep and I didn’t want her to rely on me for sleep: she is fine now and goes to sleep with no issues: it took a week of doing this btw: now I just shhh her back to sleep at night with no touch and she goes right back to bed. I know it sounds cruel but if they aren’t stopping there isn’t much of a choice . We weren’t getting any sleep and she would wake in in the middle of the night screaming for hours as well . It was so fraustrating .

Depends on how old your child is. We did Ferber at 7 months and my daughter became a new baby without broken night sleep. She was so much happier in the mornings without frequent wakings. We were all much more rested and happy.

Im against it for anything longer than 10 minutes at a time and for any child after one. 
How is your child supposed to know youll be there for them if you dont come? 
Then again, I co sleep with my 2 kids ages 3 and 22 months and won't be kicking them out when #3 gets here. We love our cuddles and we sleep better at night knowing they are with us(husband and i).

I think it depends on your family! I do know that trying it one time isn’t going to work you gotta stick to whatever routine you decide. We don’t do cry it out but we do try to promote self soothe after 6 months by waiting a few minutes before going to check in and repeating until they fall asleep

Literally the only thing that worked for my son. The idea of going to sleep makes him cry and has since infancy. Didn't matter if we were cosleeping or in our own room. Trying gentle methods resulted in more tears, so we did CIO

I did it with my toddler (19 months old). I did sit in the room with her and reassure her that I was still there. The first night was the absolute worst. She cried & screamed off and on for almost 3 hours. The second night took 45 minutes and by night 4 she only cried for 5 minutes. I can now lay her down, say goodnight & walk out the door. She also stopped waking up numerous times in the middle of the night. If she does wake up now she usually puts herself back to sleep. If she starts crying then I know something is wrong.

I personally never liked it. Tried it once 3 kids ago & haven't tried it since.
