Answers please!!!

I've been on birth control for about a year now because I had such bad periods. However, here lately my emotions have been absolutely crazy! I can't control them. One minute I will be crying my eyes out, the next happy, then furious, and then I'm sitting emotionless staring into space. Along with dealing with my crazy emotions it's caused a numerous amount of problems between my lifelong friends and I, and also between my boyfriend of 3 years and I. So my questions is can birth control mess with my emotions this much, or could something else be wrong??
