Do you agree with compassionate release?

Do you agree with compassionate release of prison inmates?

Here's an easy definition of what it is and example for those of you that aren't familiar:

"Compassionate release policies allow for the release of prisoners for whom death is imminent. Family members may contact a state’s prison bureau to ask that a terminally ill prisoner be allowed to die surrounded by family and friends rather than in prison.

Example: California prison inmate Richard Mejico, the founder of Criminals and Gang Members Anonymous (CGA), was serving a life sentence for murder. When Mejico was terminally ill in 2010, his family successfully requested compassionate release. Mejico died at home about ten hours after he was released from prison."
There's a lot more that goes along with it but that's the general idea. 
Do you agree with compassionate release or say the offender was ridiculously violent- would you feel safe having them near you in the community, etc? Not all die as quickly as the example. Should inmates who murdered others be shown compassion even when they did not show their victims compassion?

I seriously think it depends on each situation. If they've been serving a life sentence for 30+ years or something and they have had extremely good behavior or something then maybe. I don't think we should just release every killer just because they are about to die. Life in prison means life in prison. They did something to deserve to die alone in prison. I know that's harsh, but how would the family of the victim feel about that? I mean? I see the good in it, but I still think it should be extremely rare.

If we don't show them compassion when they had none then we have stooped to their level.

Yes, because it's not just about them but also about their family. Their family didn't commit the crime and shouldn't be punished by not seeing and saying goodbye to a loved one. Perhaps if safety of the community is a worry then there should be someone official stationed at the house, but to be honest if the prisioner is that Ill they are dying I doubt the could do much harm! It's a complicated one and I don't think you can generalise really, as each case is different, but my general thought would be yes to compassionate leave as you described it

I think it largely depends on the crime. For instance if someone in my family was murdered and they decided to let the murderer out on compassionate release to die with family then I would cause hell, I wouldn't of had the chance to say goodbye to them so why should they get to die at home surrounded by family. If it's a less serious crime and they are guarded till death by police then ok but I don't think you can go by the same rule for every case.

Depends on what they did. How about we compassionately release all inmates who are there for nonviolent drug charges and keep the murderers and rapists there for life.

Okay I'm going to say no because of the way the victims families felt. They did the crime and just because they have a terminal illness does not mean they didn't commit a terrible crime. I also feel that paroling Charles man so was a terrible idea because California felt that because of his age he was not a threat. Charles Manson did not murder those people to begin with, he simply manipulated others into doing it so why does his age make him less dangerous? That's just my opinion though.
