Ovulation cramps without ovulating

I’m just feeling so defeated. I’m CD 21 after a provera induced period and my OPKs have remained negative this whole time. They’ve gotten somewhat darker, but aren’t positive. I’m confused though because tonight I had cramps that I have only ever experienced while ovulation. We’ve been trying for a year and I’ve ovulated twice, and both times I had horrible, unmistakable cramps.

Tonight I felt those cramps for a 3rd time, but I don’t think I’m actually ovulating. (Also not pregnant. I checked.)

Is there *ANY* possibility that my dark but not positive tests could’ve actually been a surge?
