Can someone explain BBT?

This month I'm going to try tracking bbt but I don't completely understand how and what I need to watch for. Help needed please. T.y!

Wow, my bbt is not steady. I do it the same time every morning before I even sit up.

Make sure you test at the same time every morning (within an hour) and before you get out of bed (or walk, use restroom, kiss your husband). I have my thermometer on the night stand next to my alarm clock, next to my bed (in arms reach). It is the very FIRST thing I do. Because you're looking for a .00 change in your BBT, it is very important to be consistent. BBT can fluctuate a lot with movement. You want your "resting" BBT. If you aren't consistent with this, your chart will look erratic and it will be more difficult to analyze. Better data = better results.

FYI, I prefer the Fertility Friend App for observing BBT and I use Glow for the community. On FF, you can compare your chart to others and look for indications like: length of cycle, ovulation, implantation dip, best day to test with HPT, etc...

When you ovulate, your BBT will spike .5-1 degree and stay at this elevation until you menstrate. If you chart every day then you can more closely pin point your day of ovulation. If you become pregnant, your BBT stays elevated and you don't have a drop.

Purple is today's date, pink is your expected period start date and best day to test, and green is your expected ovulation days. All of the info now is only speculative. Once you gather more data those dates will change and be more accurate.
