Needing experiences & opinions on the The Copper IUD (Paraguard)

If you have had experience with the copper IUD (Paraguard) good or bad , I want to hear it. I am due with our 2nd baby in May and I’m looking for non hormonal birth control option since I’ve had nothing but problems with all the hormonal birth controls I have tried .We aren’t sure if we are done having kids but know we want to wait at least 2-3 years.

I’m 20 and have had the copper IUD for almost a year now. My flow has always been super light with little cramping and the IUD has definitely increased those symptoms but just to a more regular flow and normal amount of cramping. I haven’t had any problems with it, just make sure to take painkillers before you get it in & expect the first couple periods to have pretty heavy cramping and bleeding, but after a while your period starts to go closer to normal. Totally worth it in my opinion if you typically have a lighter flow and little cramping

I had sooooo many problems with this my periods were horrendous. It says no added hormones but it does affect your hormones they do not tell you alot about that . Mine basically ended up making me sick all the time with periods so overwhelming it was impossible to only use one form of sanitary products 2-3 at a time and still bledding through ,nausea, extreme bloating . Weight gain with no matter how much physical activity. Tirdness i can go on . Doctor and i finally said enough is enough this is pretty much poisoning me . I'd highly reccomend researching this product and hormones like i mentioned and womans testimonials for some cases it was harder to conceive or worse . Hope this helps !

Well my doctor said that copper IUD shouldn’t have any side effects like irregular period but I’ve been having 2 periods/month that last for 7days each and its been happening for like 5months, on month 6 tho my period was late for 2 weeks and then got my period on February 17 and still on my period until now :/ I get checked and everything is fine with me so yea its really fun. But I hope your case gonna be different than mine.

I know copper IUD doesn’t have hormones…it causes copper poisoning. I’m saying, it looks like you are having a bad reaction to the Paraguard and I recommend getting it removed and NOT switching to a hormonal option. Not worth it. There are plenty of options that does use hormones…outside the US they are common. Doctors here are so biased by Big Pharma is disgusting.

Get it removed, don’t use hormonal birth control. My aunt had copper IUD and was basically poisoned…she had the same issues as you in the beginning and it just got worse. I had bad mental health symptoms from Mirena after 10 years. I use the Caya diaphragm with Caya gel. You can get Caya diaphragm in the US but they don’t sell Caya gel because they want you to use hormonal birth control and only allow toxic spermicide in this country. I buy Caya gel from Canada and it works great. No hormones and I feel so much better without them! It’s good to use ovulation tracking with the diaphragm so you know when you’re most fertile and avoid sex during that time or double up using a condom as well during ovulation. Doctors don’t recommend diaphragms because they think we’re too stupid to use them correctly. In my opinion, the hormonal imbalance I experienced was not worth the convenience of the IUD, copper or Mirena…
