Epidural experiences?

So it looks like I'll deliver my second baby by elective C-Section. 
I had my first baby by an unmedicated water birth.
I'm extremely nervous about the thought of having an epidural so could someone tell me their experiences? Both good and bad as I want to be fully aware of both sides

I had an epidural and it made my labour so so easy. When I was in transition and getting more uncomfortable I could just top it up. Didn’t feel anything.

I had a spinal block (very similar to an epidural, just in a slightly different area of the back) as part of an emergency c section.
I was nervous but whoever put my block in was very talented. I felt the numbing needle (and squeezed my husband to death) but apart from weird pulling sensations I felt no pain. 
It was weird to feel disconnected from my lower half (and as an anxious person made me a little nervous) but considering what an ordeal birth is, I think my pain relief worked very well for me.
I was shaky BEFORE my epidural so it didn’t cause any shaking, I felt a little dizzy on the OR table but I can’t tell if that was epidural or just nerves. My vitals were constantly monitored so nurses would have noticed anything concerning.
It wore off quite smoothly once removed and once it did walking again went ok and I was up the next morning to pee.
Oh and they put my catheter in after the spinal block so I didn’t feel that at all.
So I had a positive experience. My pain wasn’t extreme when I got it, so if I had my time around again and elect for an epidural, I’d probably aim to get it before the pain is extreme (I’d let it get to a 5-6 on the pain scale)

My epidural only numbed my vagina and legs. Nothing else

The spinal isnt bad. The aftermath of the csection is the pits— youll die a little and see jesus every time you sneeze for the first two weeks after. I also had a tingly leg for a few weeks from when the spinal hitba nerve. Its relatively common and bothered me way less than the wound in my abdomen

Hey so I gave birth last year in July. I was going for unmedicated, I had gone 10 hours with no pain relief and I really re-thought I could handle it. I couldn't and I ended up having everything lol, I had pethidine and I had the epidural, the pethidine wore off and so they offered the epidural and I agreed, they told me to sit up on the side of the bed and hold a pillow on my lap and put my chin down on it while they inserted the needle, I have a huge phobia of needles and trust me it didn't hurt one bit, the contractions were worse lol. Anyway after a while I fell asleep and woke up in intense pain on my left side and it felt awful, I had a top up of epidural and fell back asleep. Around 6am they woke me up because they wanted me to push, the epidural wore off a second time and they refused to do it again, at this point they were worried for my son as he was in fetal distress and so they took me to theatre where they gave me a spinal. Same thing, sat on edge of the bed, pillow in lap, chin down and they inserted it into my back, after a minute or so I was numb and they proceeded to use forceps to get my son out. I didn't feel anything after that, I highly recommend the epidural but with me it kept wearing off so not fun but yeah that's my story and good luck! (I had a 31 hour labor) 😆❤️

I was actually terrified of the epidural. I swore up and down before having my son that I would not get one. Well after going from no contractions when my water broke to having them every 1 minute after a half hr, soon as I got to the hospital I decided I couldn’t do it and would get it 😬 the nurses and doctors were surprised how strong and close together my contractions were when my water had broke only an hr or 2 before. My contractions were so bad I felt so weak I could hardly move or open my eyes so when I got my IV and epidural I actually couldn’t feel it over them. I don’t know how long it took for my epidural to kick in but when it did, I felt 1000x better. I could only feel pressure in my butt when I was having contractions. I was allowed to lay on my side with a peanut ball between my legs which was really nice, I have never liked laying on my back. I knew it was time to push because it felt like my body kept trying to push out a huge poop 😅😅 the only reason pushing kinda sucked was because it literally sucked all the energy from me but I didn’t really feel any “pain”. The only thing I felt really was him crowning which honestly I don’t think was as bad bc of the epidural. Also it didn’t make me completely limp either, I could still move my legs and such while I had it. I did feel them stitching me up tho, that was a really awful feeling. But I was able to get up and walk very shortly after I had my son. For anyone who is debating getting an epidural or not, I would say try going without it if you can because some people don’t have such a hard time without it, but don’t feel bad if you do need it! Everyone and every delivery is different. My mom has 5 kids all natural, never needed the epidural but my contractions were so strong and close together I got absolutely no break in between them. It could go either way!

2018 I took the epidural with my daughter it didn’t wonders, no pain and no after effects. Last night I took it to have my son and for 3 hours I felt minimal pain but after that even after pressing the button to get more medication it didn’t work, I felt every pressure and contractions. Gave birth 1:55am and I’m still in pain from it being in my back and also when I try to get out of bed I feel the pain in my back.

Youll get the spinal which is the numbing shot then the actual medication. Most of the time they are really good about placing them in the right spot the first time. My experience is opposite and it took them 3-4 times to place it.

I don't think they use an epidural anymore,  I was told they usually do a spinal tap, its next to the spine not in it and it's just 1 shot no constant medication,  therefore no catheter in your back. My husband wasn'tallowed for it so the nurse helped me relax I hunched over and when the needle went in(numbing first) I pushed against myself so I wouldn't flinch forward. It wasn't a bad as I expected and it was over quickly. I did have a itchy reaction to it though,  I got iv benadryl to counter the itch. The c-section was the easy part. 👌 the hard part was recovery,  2wks till I could move without pain, couldn'teven sneeze without pain. Damn, pain meds got me so high I'd fall asleep feeding my baby ,yeah I'd rather push out 10 babies before getting a c section again.
