How badly does it hurt and for how long?

Does the cervix have to be completely closed/not dilated at all for them to do it or would they still do it if you were a little dilated?

Considering it for next week at my 39 week + 1 day appt if baby doesn’t come beforehand. They checked me today at 38+1 and I’m not dilated at all. Baby is head down but not engaged/dropped. This is baby #2 for me.

They’ll induce at 40 weeks anyway because I have gestational diabetes so trying to figure out if it’s worth it to try this in an attempt to go more naturally.
