What makes you believe in God?

Question

I grew up with a mom who went to church and believed, my father on the other hand not really religious but I guess he somewhat believed. I for a long time considered my self an atheist and only went to church because my family would go here and there anyways as I got older I started to wonder it wasn’t until my mom passed away that I felt he was with her
 but what makes you believe? And what do you tell others when they ask “ why does he let bad things happen” or “ tell/show me how he is real” my friend asked this questioned once and it made me teary for some reason to hear it.

I grew up going to church but it wasn't until I was in college that I really began to believe in God fully. I was in a really bad place mentally and then found out a very close family member had stage 4 stomach cancer. I was alone when I found out and the immense peace and comfort I felt while praying about it was something I will never forget. I know there is a God, and it's not something easy to explain.
When a friend asks for proof of God or Jesus, I look at it from a historical standpoint. Look at the data and writings about the Bible over history. There is more supporting evidence of the existence of the people in the stories than in any historical book or piece found. The way food tastrs good to us. The way sunsets are beautiful. The perfectly balanced science that supports life on earth. If you start looking, you can see God everywhere. If the bible isn't real, then it doesn't matter, but if Jesus was who he says he was - the bible is the single most important text in the world. I'm putting my money on it 🤷🏼‍♀️
As for why bad things happen - God has given us all free will. We are free to make our own choices and sin is allowed to be part of this world. Sin is death and we all face the same fate of that. But God does use the pain and hardships for his glory. When you see a community rally around a sick kid. When you watch a world come together to rebuild after fire and hurricanes. When you hold your rainbow baby for the first time and realize it was worth the wait and tears. Blessing come even in the hardest of hardships. 
If you are interested at all in finding out the truth, read the Bible, not passively but look things up you don't understand. Check out YouTube channels like the bible project. If you want to dig deeper, look at all religions. Read their books, understand what makes each different. Read CS Lewis' Mere Christianity (he was an atheist well into adulthood).
Religion is extremely personal and finding a relationship with God is not a quick thing. It's a lifelong journey that is filled with doubt and hardship but if it's all true, what's at the end of that all is so incredibly worth it and I personally believe it's all real.

People ask why do bad things happen like Satan isn't the Prince of the Earth. The Bible explicitly states that his people be in the world not of the world because it is truly the devil's playground. His only mission is to capture the souls of God's people and use them to gain leverage against God. God doesn't LET bad things happen. It's known that bad things WILL happen. He lets it be known that people are born into sin. The moment Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge, it was curtains for all the rest of future generations. They were the only people to experience a sin free world until they didn't. Their son killed his brother. There is no turning back from that. We can't erase what's already been set into motion. We can acknowledge it and do something about it, but as long as there is good, there will be evil. as long as there is evil there will be good and God gives specific instructions that nobody seems to truly understand about how to get into alignment according to the God that you will be serving here on Earth and for all of eternity.

i understand why you feel like we are at war right now.  especially whats going on with this virus if u look in revelations that the devil wanted to mark everyone on foreheads or hand . and no one will able to buy or sell ..

but Sentor Ron Johnson had 5 women and 1 kid on there talking about they got sick. after taking it and been ignored by the CDC & FDA.

I grew up as a “catholic” , but we never went to church . Only on baptisms or special occasions. 
The Catholic Church scared the poop out of me with all the candles and painting and saints and statues . I never felt God in that place .
 I then started going to Christian church when I was 15 , because my real dad whom I would visit every other weekend , started going to Christian church . I saw my step mom praying and my uncle and my dad praying , but still , I never felt God or felt like I was broken because I would hear them speaking in tongues and I couldn’t . I stopped going because my dad tried to molest me at the age of 15 and I stopped seeing him so that meant I stopped attending church .
I then married young at the age of 19 and started attending Jehovah witness congregations because my mother in law was a Jehovah witness . I still , did not feel the presence of God . I didn’t TRULY know him . 
I divorced because my husband says he sold his sole to the devil , was physically abusive and mentally abusive as well , I became a single mom, and went wild for a few years . You name it , drugs , lots of sex , drinking , bars , being promiscuous and etc . I even started sleeping with men I shouldn’t have , and one of them tried to get me hooked on meth . I did meth for a few months here and there , and never thought I had a problem with it until one day I took it home and was doing meth in my restroom , with my daughter in the next room . I knew I needed a change . 
I cried in the bathroom taking a shower and begged God to show me who he was or to show me how to stop this life and that if he would just help me break free from this , I would find out who he was . 
The next month I made a plenty of fish account because I lacked self confidence, I craved men’s attentions to make me feel better . Somehow getting messages from all these men , gave me a sense of value . 
I met this man , I didn’t want to meet him because he didn’t seem real at first . He had one photo and I just was too busy flirting and texting all the others . 
But he was persistent , he messaged me a lot and was respectful. I finally decided to give him a chance and see what he was all about .
We met up the next week . When I looked into his eyes , something told me “this is my husband” . I knew right then and there this was the man I was going to marry . Seeing him made me want to stop all the nasty bad stuff I was doing , in fear of losing him . I quit doing drugs in the next month of meeting him and never told him what I did .
I met his parents the next month and they were very clear they were Christ followers and preached to me thier beliefs . (Apostolic faith) my husband grew up in the church but was not attending it anymore . My husband told me at first about thier religion and how women were not to wear makeup ,pants , jewelry , dress immodestly . I said right then and there , NOPE ! That’s never going to be me …
We get married in 2017, have our son in 2018 , where I got hit with SEVERE PPD/PPA . I could not function normally with this condition . I hated it, I cried. My mother in law told me to call out to God for help . We started attending church regularly and the people at church prayed for me . Within months I was healed . Jesus had touched me and healed my mind from PPD/PPA. I no longer felt the way I did . 
I thought to myself , how can I ever repay what God has done for me . From that moment forward , I ran to God . I owe my life to Jesus . I was baptized for the remission of my sinful life I lived , and I serve the Lord everyday . I am proud to be an apostolic woman , and follow what God has told me to do in the Bible . I know there is a God because he has saved me from the pits of hell more than once .

Why does he let bad things happen. To me i think its free will. We need free will to have true love w each other and towards God. That same free will lets us choose between good and bad and i think as humans we have messed up alot in this world and it part of why bad things happen. We as humanity as a whole cause alot of bad things. I know there are things like sicknesses and natural disasters that are bad things out of our control some i believe are God punishing humanity. We all like to just think and believe that God is just all love but the bible says he is also a consuming fire. Then there are prophesies that need to be fulfilled before the end times. These are just my thoughts and beliefs. 
Show me God is real or exists. 
To me its nature and ourselves. I see nature and us and just cant believe there was a big bang and we showed up in an unevolved form. Our bodies are so complex and amazing the details in all the functions we have are so much that they make me believe that only an incredible God could have created us. Same is with mountains and seas and animals. The insame amount of plants and flowers and trees and all. I
If someone trully wants to see if God exists i tell them to ask God tk show up for them. To have an encounter with them personally. Ask God to show himself to you. Not physically but in a way that you know it is God.

I'm not religious, religious people usually annoy me, although I do respect them. I read the bible and pray occasionally. I've never understood atheists tho. Nature is how I connect with God. To me, you cannot feel the wind or the sun on your face and not believe. You can't look at animals and trees and the way our bodies and brains work and not believe.  You cannot look at how insanely beautiful the stars are and not believe.  There is an infinite universe filled with things we could never imagine. But look at the nature around you. Study the way animals work and people work. It's all built to perfection and everything knows exactly what to do. If you want to get close to God, just go out in the woods and pay attention.
