So I’m with my midwife at our weekly appointment and there was some university student with us.

My midwife and I are very close and always cracking jokes with each other and playing around. As I’m laying on the bed while the student comes to measure my belly...

My midwife starts talking about how I just went and got a pedicure done and I was laughing saying “yeah, I needed it because I can’t reach my toes anymore. My husband has to wash my feet for me every day because I am wearing open shoes they get dirty when I’m out. So I painted them so you atleast couldn’t see them dirty while I was out until I get hone to clean them” like I said having a friggen LAUGH WITH MY MIDWIFE! And this student looks at me in disgust and goes “why don’t you just wash them” ummmmmm did you listen to anything I just saiddddddddd

Then lifting up my dress she comments “wow these are some lovely stretch marks”!!! My midwife went red and before she could say anything I replied “yeah they’re like my tattoos on my body from my children. Every tattoo and every scar has something to say about me and my life and my stretch marks tell you about my children!

Then my midwife starts poking to tickle me telling me I’m beautiful just to break the awkwardness and the student snapped and was like “can you stop laughing I can’t measure the baby as long as you are going to laugh” (I wasn’t wriggling around or being stupid. I simply giggled as my midwifes poked)

THEN talking about weight gain and diet I was like “yeahhhhh I’ve upped my calories the last couple weeks so baby can have some nice weight on him... just been eating a couple extra donuts” again talking to myyyy midwife and the student who was doing her notes was like “why are you eating unhealthy! Do you think that’s fair on your baby! Eat healthy and what ever calories the baby wants to take from what you’re eating he will take! You don’t want to have an unhealthy baby! Maybe with the talking you’re doing now you will burn those calories”

“WHATTTTT!”

Girl! You’re like what? 19 just sprouting pubes and breast buds! I’m a 32 year old mother of three! She was disgusting and so judgmental! Like if you want to give me advice by all means do that! But she was RUDE!!! I have never met her before! I don’t know how she felt comfortable enough to speak to me in the way she did!

I will absolutely be putting in a formal complaint when I go in on Tuesday after speaking to my husband about it! You can’t be speaking to pregnant women like this!

Anyone else experienced difficult comments by health professionals while being pregnant?
