Do you have a child in speech therapy? Help.

I have set up an appointment for speech therapy for my son. He hasn’t had his first evaluation yet and they are now calling wanting me to set up an audiology appointment. He has no balance or hearing problems which they asked over the phone and i told them. Does he really need to see an audiologist before even being evaluated first by the speech therapist?

My son had to see an audiologist before starting speech therapy even though we said his hearing and balance was fine, I think it's just to cover all bases.

My son was 3 last summer- which is when the nursery referred us to S&L therapy
As covid was around we are on the waiting list
Had a telephone consultation
Where I expressed that I am not worried at all!
He is bilingual. Has a good u derstanding of everything we tell him
Has a good vocabulary
But his words are not too clear!
Still on waiting list since last year!
Nursery expressed again their worries- so referred us to an audiology appointment!
We have been there last week. His hearing is fine!
I am still not worried!
Just annoyed that the system is teying to make me feel gyilty for not being worried abt my kid!

My son was a bit delayed and we did audiology first. It turned out he had fluid in his ears. He had no balance issues and understood everything we said. He just preferred pointing over talking.

My husband had to do speech therapy when he was a toddler. He had his ears checked and ended up having to get tubes in his ears. My daughter has to do speech therapy as well and she failed her hearing test when she went (though it seems like she can hear just fine). It may seem annoying but it’s definitely important to get it checked.

My daughter is in speech therapy, she had been for two months now, she was not required a hearing test but she just had in done on the 11th just to error on caution.
