Last night I was walking through Walmart with my four year old son and he says "mommy I can't wait to get our new kitty!" And I said "sweetheart we already have our kitty." He said "no mommy the kitty in your tummy!" I was taken off guard. Then I had to spend the next ten minutes explaining mommies don't have kittens, mommies have a baby. So then he says "oh! Well I can't wait to meet my sister!" I said, "honey, we don't know what baby is yet." He looks me straight in the face and says "she's a girl like you mommy! I know I said I wanted a brother but it's ok I love her anyways!" Now, I have been refusing to think of the possibility of getting my hopes up this time around because last time I made myself feel horrible when when it was a boy. This time I want to be happy either way so this shocked me because I've been calling baby a boy since day one.
